Zdzisław Beksiński

Polish artist (1929–2005) whose work spans painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, and digital imagery.

Untitled (The Ember Chapel)

surrealism

About the artwork

Two towering forms rise into an amber sky, their rust-colored surfaces packed with small pale shapes and fine linear detail. A dark circular opening punctures the broader structure, giving the mass an architectural presence. Untitled (The Ember Chapel) by Zdzisław Beksiński brings this enigmatic scene to the wall as a printed reproduction with a strong vertical rhythm.

Inside the composition

A narrow tower on the left balances a wider, sharply peaked form to the right. Their warm reds and oranges appear especially intense against the quieter sky and hazy lower ground. The cluster of small forms embedded in the central structure can suggest figures, worn stone, or organic matter, leaving the boundary between building and body unresolved. From a distance, the silhouette reads clearly; at closer range, that apparent solidity becomes more complicated.

The composition may evoke a ruined sanctuary, a memory of a city, or a landscape shaped by an unfamiliar ritual. These are interpretive possibilities, not a verified account of the painting’s subject. The Ember Chapel is a descriptive catalog identifier for this untitled image, preserving its distinction within the store without presenting the phrase as the artist’s own title.

Choose your print

For an office or library, this atmospheric art print introduces warmth without losing its sense of stillness. Rust, ochre, and smoky neutrals work well beside wood and muted textiles. Give the image enough space for its twin peaks to register as a single composition, and place it where the concentrated detail can reward a pause during the day.

Available options include canvas prints, framed canvas, and matte paper posters. Choose from 30 × 40 cm (12 × 16 in), 45 × 60 cm (18 × 24 in), 50 × 70 cm (20 × 28 in), and 60 × 90 cm (24 × 36 in). Framed canvas options include black, dark wood, and wood frames. Select the size and presentation that suit your wall.

Styling & Hanging Tips

Pick the right size
Above a sofa, bed or console, choose an artwork about two-thirds of the furniture’s width. Open the Size Guide next to the sizes to see every option to scale.

Hang it at eye level
Place the centre of the artwork about 57″ (145 cm) from the floor. Above furniture, leave 6–10″ (15–25 cm) between the furniture and the bottom of the piece.

Build a gallery wall
Start with one large statement piece and add two or three smaller ones around it, keeping 2–3″ (5–8 cm) between them for a calm, curated look.

Light and care
Avoid direct sunlight and spots above radiators or in steamy bathrooms. Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth.
